Post Processing - Intro to Lightroom - Online via Zoom - 7.00pm - 2 hours
While the aim is always to capture the best image in-camera, post-processing can also take your photos to the next level.

We will start from the basics and work up to the powerful features Lightroom offers. Even those who are experienced with Lightroom can still unlock features or better workflows.

We will look at cataloguing, basic edits, the histogram, colour grading, saturation, tone adjustment, brushes, creating your own presets, and the newer upgrades to masks and filters. How to do HDR and stitch panoramas. We will set up workflows and helpful shortcuts and more.

Questions and discussion will be encouraged.

Even if you don't have access to this software platform, seeing how the process works will provide an overview of the endless possibilities of post-processing. The principles can also be applied to other software modules.

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations across the region.
New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month.
And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next on is!

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Introduction to Astrophotography - Maddens Plains - 6.30pm - 2 hours
Maddens Plains north of Wollongong is a large natural bushland with a low density of urban lights, making it an ideal location for night sky and astrophotography.

The dark sky will allow our Milky Way Galaxy to be visible as it rises above the horizon, the clear horizon views will enable wide-angle landscape and if the atmospheric conditions are suitable, and you have a telephoto lens, we could try to image some deep sky objects. The moon will rise during the last part of our session.

Please be aware that this session will be subject to suitable weather.

This site has easier access than Bombo, although it still requires walking in the dark it is on level ground.

I thought this session showed me that there is a lot to learn about macro photography and that I need to practise if I want to do this type of photography for myself. It also gave me a new respect for any macro photography that I see in the future.

I really like the way Sue Curtis runs the workshop. She gives us a handout to give us options and challenges, to use but is also on hand to guide and ask questions. She also makes sure she comes around and checks how everyone is progressing and goes handy tips to get better photos.

With the help and encouragement of Sue, I did very well. I'm having difficulties with my laptop and haven't seen the photos as yet, even though they have been downloaded, but just the fact that I was able to use the camera on manual makes me very chuffed.

Photography Class for Beginners - I was so impressed with the way this class was taught and that the numbers were small, it allowed me to learn more about my camera. The notes that Sue had prepared for this class were excellent and I have been referring to these notes all week.

It was great. This is the third one I’ve done with Sue Curtis and I find she is a great teacher. She comes well prepared with handouts, talks us through settings and how to take certain types of photos and is very approachable with any questions. She also goes around and checks everyone is getting good photos and can use the information she’s giving us, to their advantage. In fact, I enjoy her classes so much I’ve booked in for another 2 coming up!

Sue ran the event and stuck with us during the rain. Sue was not going any where if there was 1 person showing interest. Sue got to everyone and spent the right amount of time with each of us, not matter the skill range. Great location and I learnt things I hadnt even thought was possible.
