Teleconverter: An attachment that can extend the focal length of a lens, and can provide between 1.4 to 2 times the magnification. So if you attached a 1.4 teleconverter to a 70-200mm lens, you could achieve an extended focal length of 280mm.

These are popular as they are generally a lot cheaper than purchasing a whole new zoom lens, but there are factors to consider. Teleconverters will reduce the amount of light entering the lens, which in turn will reduce your maximum aperture, meaning you would have to shoot at f5.6 rather than f4.
