This week we chat to Gav Mihai, a land and seascape photographer.
Tell us about who you are and what you do For someone who spent 12 years in my home country of Romania, and 12 years in the United Kingdom, has finally settled in Australia and Iím happy to be able to call this amazing place home.
I am passionate about photography and the ocean and very dedicated to capturing the sunrise around Cronulla.
Where in the world are you? I am living in the south of Sydney, in Cronulla, Australia.
Do you have a favourite photo that youíve taken?
I cannot choose a single favourite, but my favourite shots are beach shots or rock pool shots reflecting cloudy skies during sunrise.
What inspires you? My surroundings and in particular, the ocean.
Whatís in your camera bag? My Nikon D7100, a Tokina 11-16mm, a Nikkor 35mm prime and a 55-200mm zoom lens. So far!
Is there something on your equipment wishlist? A water housing is the dream. My GoPro just doesnít compare to a DSLR in terms of quality anymoreÖ
How do you find your next photography location? Mostly by driving around, we tend to get out most weekends and keep active, explore new places and seek new spots.
Whatís been the biggest challenge? Trying to find different ways to photograph really popular spots and stand out from the crowd.
How did you get started in your field of photography? Well, I had been using a GoPro for years until last Christmas when my girlfriend surprised me with my first ever DSLR.
Do you remember what your first ever camera was? It was a Nikon D3200.
What has been the best piece of advice given to you? Donít eat yellow snow!
If you werenít a photographer, what would you be? A marine biologist.
Colour or black and white? Always colour if shooting golden hour. Black and white I tend to use very little.
Whereís next on the travel list? A trip to New Zealand in the very near future! The Kingdom of Tonga is on the cards as a dream location, which Iím hoping to go to by 2018. This is to free dive and capture humpback whales up close.
