The theme for our latest photography competition was Winter Photography
It can be tempting to hide yourself and your camera away over the winter months, especially with the cold and wet weather that most of us have had! But if you're brave and head out into the elements, you can be rewarded with some great shots!
We asked you to head out and capture photos that can sum up what winter is like, whether here in Australia, or further afield.
Here are our finalists for the Winter Photography competition:
Kirsty Kikali, Adelaide
Sue Murphy, Brisbane
Wanshen Fabien Pratiknyo, Melbourne
Gail Szkiela, Perth
Tracye Hughes, Sydney
The winner this fortnight is...Tracye Hughes from Sydney!
Congratulations Tracye! You have won a $100 photography voucher! We often talk about the atmosphere of a photograph, which is something that is actually very hard to achieve successfully when you're capturing a tiny fraction of a second of a scene! Yet in Tracye's shot she has packed in an incredibly atmospheric scene!
The moodiness of the black&white tones reminds us of those dull, grey wintery days. Even though the light and contrasts are very soft in this photo, we love how there is a bigger contrast with the silhouette of the branches in the foreground, which help to add another layer to the image, and give it depth when the light and weather are not playing on your side!
This could easily be a painting, and we've thoroughly enjoyed studying every part of it! Congratulations Tracye!
The theme for next fortnight is Using Blur in Photography
Ahhh....blur! The one big enemy you had to face when you first started out in photography and began the journey of mastering shutter speed.
But we like to bend the big, bad rules of photography now and then, and play around with camera settings!
We would like to see how you can creatively use blur in your photography, and really experiment to see what you can come up with.
