The theme for the photography challenge this fortnight was Urban Photography.
Urban photography is all about exploring your local town or city, and capturing the smaller, often grittier details that are often overlooked.
This could be a mix of architecture, industrial details and street scenes to create a visual story of your town or city's atmosphere.
Here are our finalists for the Urban Photography theme:
Sara Frame, Adelaide
Niall Steward, Brisbane
Richmond Santos, Canberra
Ashton Murphy, Melbourne
Carolyn Toleman, Perth
Kathy Wallace, Sydney
The winner this fortnight is...Sara Frame in Adelaide!
Congratulations Sara! You have won a $100 JB Hifi voucher! Fantastic depiction of an industrial area, that some people may not stop and consider to be full of photo opportunities!
A simple but striking composition, with bursts of contrasts and rich textures picked up by the black&white tones. We love the multitude of layers, lines (particularly the mix of criss-crossing horizontal and vertical lines) and details that can be found throughout, and they all build up to paint a picture of an interesting urban scene.
We feel that Sara has spotted a photo opportunity that really works, and has cleverly framed it to create a stunning shot of a particularly gritty area of the city.
The theme for next fortnight is Photographing Water
Water can provide some amazing photo opportunities, and has been a source of inspiration for many great photographers. Whether you're out trekking with your camera to capture rivers and waterfalls, or strolling by the sea, or even experimenting with water from your own kitchen sink.
Think about the techniques you can use to creatively snap the water, such as long exposures or super fast shutter speeds to freeze action.
This theme is a great chance to take on board some new camera skills, and perhaps try something you hadn't considered before.
