The photography challenge this fortnight was all about Light and Shadow in Photography, so a perfect opportunity to take things right back to basics and to enjoy experimenting with the light and interesting compositions around you.
Here are our finalists for the Light and Shadow theme:
Dinny Kelly, Adelaide
Lisa Lawrie, Brisbane
David Collins, Melbourne
Emily Tan, Perth
Colleen Harris, Sydney
The winner this fortnight is...Lisa Lawrie in Brisbane!
Congratulations Lisa! You have won a $100 JB Hifi voucher! This theme was all about playing with light and shadow, and finding a way to capture them in a creative way - we feel that Lisa has definitely achieved that with this shot! We found that our eyes kept coming back to this high contrast image, which is filled with hard graphic patterns and lines. The actual exposure of the shot has been managed really well, and although there's a big contrast between the bright sky and dark shadow, there are no areas that are too under or over exposed. Detail has been retained throughout.
Lisa's photo is a great example of finding interesting photo opportunities in the everyday, and how carefully considering the composition and elements of the scene can create a stunning shot. Fantastic work Lisa! Your name has popped up as a finalist a few times over the past few months and has been getting noticed by us!
The theme for next fortnight is Urban Photography
Urban photography is all about exploring your local town or city, and capturing the smaller, often grittier details that are often overlooked.
Look at photographing a mix of architecture, industrial details and street scenes to create a visual story of what your town or city is all about.
Will you be focusing on getting the bigger picture of your local area with wide angle shots, or will you focus on the smaller details that are sometimes hidden from plain sight? Seek out scenes and details that interest you, but perhaps you wouldn't have considered pointing your camera at before.
