We love encouraging you lot to get creative with your cameras and shoot using ideas and techniques that you may not have tried before. This competition theme was all about pushing that creativity and exploring your surroundings after dark.
Let's take a look at the finalists for this fortnight!
Bronte Kerr, Adelaide
Alana McDonald, Brisbane
David Barber, Canberra
David Collins, Melbourne
Nola Shepherdson Hindley, Perth
Barbara Jane Clarke, Sydney
The winner this fortnight is...Alana McDonald from Brisbane!
Congratulations Alana! You have won a $100 JB Hifi voucher!
We all loved how Alana has played with colour and light in this shot, and the clever use of contrast between light and dark.
Although it is a simple composition, it is hugely effective because the red light creates such a big impact against the surrounding dark areas of the scene. There has been careful consideration of the exposure used, and Alana has not been afraid to emphasise the shadowed areas for creative effect, and avoiding having the red light areas being overexposed. This is tricky when dealing with conflicting areas of brightness and darkness.
The shot has a great abstract feel to it, as well as a sense of eeriness! A well spotted and well executed photo opportunity - this has a great professional quality.
And in second place we have...Nola Shepherdson Hindley from Perth, who has won a $50 JB Hifi voucher!
This is such a playful set of shots, and we admire how Nola has really chucked aside the photo rules book to go all out and just have some fun with the camera settings!
The long exposure and technique of moving the lens whilst the shutter is open has created some really interesting effects here, and produced some colourful, abstract shots!
The theme for next fortnight is Using Aperture and Bokeh in Photography
Bokeh (pronounced 'boke' or 'bok-ah'). The effect of creating blurred shapes from the reflected light in the background of a photograph, enhancing the depth of field in a photograph.
Bokeh is achieved by using certain types of lenses and a very wide aperture setting.
We'd love to see how you use different aperture settings and/or bokeh for creative effect. How will you play with the focus and depth of field?
Entries opened on Friday 1st March and will close on Thursday the 14th March 2019 at 23:59 AEST.
