Looking to improve your photography? Our Beginners Class is a great place to start. This 3 hour session is a photo walk that will have you weaned off of Auto mode, and transforming your everyday snaps into professional-looking shots.

The class is ideal for those who are complete beginners who want to get more out of their camera!

Taught by professional photographer Mark O'Reilly, the class will cover a range of technical aspects and you'll learn about:
• How to correctly expose photos
• Using composition techniques
• All about different focal lengths
• Using white balance and colour
• Aperture and depth of field for focus
• Using shutter speed to capture action

This is a very hands-on class, so you’ll have plenty of time to practise your new skills on the day and take lots of shots!

• What to bring?
A DSLR camera, or a camera with manual mode is preferable, but you may bring any kind of camera (with detachable or built-in lens). Please also be sure to bring plenty of memory cards and fully charged batteries - we'll be taking lots of photos! There will be a substantial amount of hands-on activity on the day, so please wear comfortable shoes and bring an umbrella should the weather call for it.

• What's involved?
The three hour session will start with an introduction, before a series of mini challenges to help you get to grips with using your camera's settings. Class sizes are kept small (max 6 people) so each participant will have a chance to interact with the professional photographer on a one-to-one basis.

Join the Adelaide Photography Facebook Group to share your photos after the session and to take part in our free competitions!

The beginner session was very relaxed and the pace was generally set by the least knowledgeable person in the group. Which was fine as it gave plenty of time to experiment with the 'tasks' set. I had a feeling the course would be a little too 'beginner' when I signed up but I did still learn some tricks and tips from the instructor. If your knowledge of your camera is limited to powering it on and turning the dial to FULL AUTO then this will be a very useful course. However, if you know about shutter speed, ISO and aperture then you will probably find a lot of the information a bit basic.

Thoroughly enjoyed this course, just wish we were 30 years younger. Our brains were like jelly and at the end we were getting tired. However we learnt enough to be able to get our cameras out and use on manual mode. The notes to take home are useful and Maurizio was very knowledgable and friendly.

Very well organised morning. He simplified everything and tasks given consolidated his teaching. He was very patient with everyone and despite everyone having different cameras he managed to spend time with everyone and ask any questions that arose.

Well thought out, well presented "beginner" content. There was time, and patience shown, to sort out individual participant's camera features. Good instructor!

It was all I expected and more. To get back to the basics was my aim and to understand the manual workings of my camera. This was most definitely achieved and thank you to Maurisio for being so patient and understanding of this not so young student.
