The theme for the group classes this fortnight was backlit portrait photography. Placing your subject in front of a strong light source can be tricky, but these finalists have shown how you can use light and shadow to your advantage.
Judging is now only done for first and second place winners only. Any feedback on images can be sought in our Facebook groups during Critique Me Tuesday, both before and after the competitions, just be sure to tag the instructor in each group, who is identified each Tuesday night.
To see all of the photography competition entries, head to the album on the Photoh Facebook page here.
The finalists this fortnight are:
Kathy Vasic, Adelaide
Lisa Lawrie, Brisbane
Stephen Plimmer, Brisbane
Lyn Dorothy Dwyer, Melbourne
Braiden McMahon, Perth
Taylla Heath, Perth
Alan Coligado, Sydney
Leigh Hess, Sydney
The winner this fortnight is...Kathy Vasic from Adelaide! Congratulations, you have won a $100 JB Hifi voucher! Kathy has captured the essence of the 'golden hour' perfectly, using the fading sunlight to highlight the texture of the child's hair, as well as picking up the shimmer of the water.
And in second place we have...Taylla Heath from Perth, who has won a $50 JB Hifi voucher. The sun flare has created great depth within the frame, highlighting the dogs as subjects and drawing the eye from the foreground back to the horizon, without being too overpowering.
The challenge for next fortnight is Christmas photography at night where students are getting festive and exploring techniques for capturing all the amazing seasonal light displays after dark.
Entries opened on Saturday the 2nd December and will close on Thursday the 21st December at midnight AEST.
To enter, simply post your photo on the Photoh Facebook wall stating your city. First prize is a $100 JB Hifi voucher and second prize is a $50 JB Hifi voucher.
