Photography Competition 68: Spring Macro Photography Montage

This fortnight, the students learned how to use macro photography techniques to photograph everything to do with spring.

It's definitely a popular topic and it seems to bring out the best in everyone. Some really incredible photos were submitted, which made it extra hard to pick finalists for this fortnight.

Judging of the competition entries is now done for first and second place winners only. Any feedback on images can be sought in our Facebook groups during Critique Me Tuesday, both before and after the competitions, just be sure to tag the instructor in each group, who is identified each Tuesday night.

To see all of the photography competition entries, head to the album on the Photoh Facebook page here.

The finalists this fortnight are:

Nic Haz, Adelaide

Liam O'Reilly, Brisbane

Glenn Cockerton, Melbourne

Kate Doble, Perth

Lorraine Kennedy, Perth

Alan Coligado, Sydney

Tracey Good, Sydney

The winner this fortnight is...Glenn Cockerton in Melbourne. Congratulations, you have won a $100 JB Hifi voucher! The unusual features of the flower subject in his image have been enhanced by the extreme close up and framing he has chosen to make it extra intriguing. It's a really interesting take on nature photography.

And in second place we have...Nic Haz from Adelaide, who has won a $50 JB Hifi voucher. Great composition and focus on the bee allows it to be seen in perfect detail from the front, as well as the flower petal it is sitting on. The background has been beautifully blurred, too.

The challenge for next fortnight is completely open when the students in each city will all study different themes. Adelaide is trying abstract photography, Sydney is having a Q&A session, Brisbane is re-visiting motion blur, Melbourne is experimenting with zoom and Perth is playing with black and white versus colour. This means all types of photos can be entered in next fortnight's competition. Entries opened on Saturday the 7th October and will close on Thursday the 19th October at midnight AEST.

To enter, simply post your photo on the Photoh Facebook wall stating your city. First prize is a $100 JB Hifi voucher and second prize is a $50 JB Hifi voucher.

Please read our post on the competition rules and guidelines if you'd like more information before submitting a photo. If you have any other questions you can message us or email brooke@photoh.com.au.
