This fortnight the theme for the group classes was street photography.
Street photography is one of the oldest genres, and has evolved over the years through both film and digital cameras. It was interesting to see everyone's take on this theme, and how some decided to capture a modern interpretation whereas others took a more traditional approach.
It's great to see a snapshot of everyday life in each city, and each of these finalist's photographs tell a story of that particular moment in time.
All the photos that were entered in the competition can be viewed in the album on the Photoh Facebook page. The finalists for this fortnight are:
Gavin Rudge - Adelaide
Joanne Woodward - Adelaide
David Hass - Brisbane
Mark Hendry - Brisbane
Stephen Reynolds - Brisbane
Lyn O'Grady - Melbourne
Laurence Baudoin - Perth
Alan Coligado - Sydney
Bala Krishnan - Sydney
Elyssebeth Leigh - Sydney
Simon Barker - Sydney
Terry O'Hagan - Sydney
The winner for first prize this fortnight is...Bala Krishnan from Sydney! He will receive a $100 JB HiFi voucher. We think that his photo tells a great story about the city's busy streets, and how he has recorded a peaceful moment in time in amongst the chaos by capturing background motion. This is a great example of envisaging the effect of an image before you take it.
The winner for second prize is...Stephen Reynolds from Brisbane, who has won a $50 JB HiFi voucher. Street photography is sometimes waiting for that perfect moment to arise, and this brilliant capture of red colours aligning makes a great shot. Well spotted Stephen!
The next photography challenge theme is Long Exposures. Entries will open on Saturday the 30th July and close on Thursday 12th August at midnight. To enter, simply post your photo on the Photoh Facebook wall stating your city.
First prize is a $100 JB Hifi voucher and second prize is a $50 JB Hifi voucher, or a Photoh class of your choice.
