Photography Challenge 81: Open Theme Montage

We had an open photography theme this fortnight at the Photoh groups. All of the city meet-ups involved a range of photography challenges that tested a whole range of the participants' camera skills.

An open theme means that everyone was able to submit a photo of any subject and from any genre of photography. This was a real chance to show off your personal preference of style and play to your photography strengths.

There was a huge variety of entries - which you can see here on the Photoh Facebook page.

This fortnight's finalists were picked for their use of the following three factors: strong composition, good choice of subject and a clear understanding of camera settings.

Judging is now only done for first and second place winners only. Any feedback on images can be sought in our Facebook groups during Critique Me Tuesday, both before and after the competitions, just be sure to tag the instructor in each group, who is identified each Tuesday night.

To see all of the photography competition entries, head to the album on the Photoh Facebook page here.

The finalists this fortnight are:

Tara Forbes-Godfrey, Adelaide

The winner this fortnight is...John from Brisbane! Congratulations John, you have won a $100 JB Hifi voucher!
John has captured an amazing cityscape at night, with great use of leading lines and a thoughtful composition. A slow shutter speed would make the water appear smoother, which then emphasises the patterns and lights going on in the buildings in the background. Great use of black&white tones too.

And in second place we have...Jackie in Perth, who has won a $50 JB Hifi voucher.
Jackie's photo is brimming with light and action! We love the fact that the person is framed well and is central; ensuring that all focus remains on the key part of this image.

The challenge for next fortnight is Photographing in Harsh Light, which means we'll be looking for creative uses of light and shadow. Think about contrast and how you could incorporate this into your photography.
There are lots of tips for this theme over in this blog post .

Entries opened on Friday the 20th April and will close on Thursday the 3rd May at 23:59 AEST.

To enter, simply post your photo on the Photoh Facebook wall stating your city. First prize is a $100 JB Hifi voucher and second prize is a $50 JB Hifi voucher.

Please read our post on the competition rules and guidelines if you'd like more information before submitting a photo. If you have any other questions you can message us or email victoria@photoh.com.au.
