You lot are smashing your way through 2019! Another set of incredible photo entries for this Storytelling Photography theme. Thanks to all who entered!
What is Storytelling Photography? Storytelling photography is the art of capturing a scene or a passage of time in a series of frames. When these frames are presented together as a photo essay, one after the other, sometimes as a collage or an album, they can tell a story in a much more emotive way than a single shot can.
How to put together a photo story
All of this theme's entries can be seen in our Facebook page album Photoh Facebook page in the album here.
Shall we take a look at our finalists?
Sarah Fry, Adelaide
Karen Jackson, Brisbane
Richmond Santos, Canberra
Andrew Costigan, Melbourne
Fabian Le Gay Brereton, Perth
Colleen Harris, Sydney
The winner this fortnight is...Fabian Le Gay Brereton from Perth!
Congratulations Fabian! You have won a $100 JB Hifi voucher!
This photo story immediately caught the eyes of our judging team with it's vibrant colours, and uplifting and positive theme. The compositions are very well-considered, and the viewpoints show off the subjects and scene in a way that crams in as much detail and context as possible, without the photos looking too crowded. We feel that Fabian has interacted with the people in his shots really well, and it shows them looking really engaged and interesting. These shots have a great flow, and could easily fill a page in a local magazine editorial. Thanks for sharing with us Fabian!
And in second place we have...Andrew Costigan from Melbourne, who has won a $50 JB Hifi voucher!
Andrew has produced a stunning collection of shots here, that introduces the viewer to the scene. The variety of viewpoints with the wider picture coupled with detail shots allows you to really get a sense of the area, which is what a photo story should do! Some great ideas with the shots here, we especially love the hand in the water and the abstract feel of the sky photo. We can see these shots appearing in a tourism article!
The theme for next fortnight is Landscape Photography
Oooh we do love a bit of landscape photography! Now there is no reason not to get involved in this competition, as there are photo-worthy landscape shots just waiting to be taken everywhere!
See this theme as an excuse to explore your local area, or if you're feeling adventurous, venture somewhere new that you've been meaning to take your camera.
