Moiré: A distortion that appears when viewing or photographing a pattern of very close lines or dots.

An example of moiré would be when you see a TV presenter wearing a checked or thinly striped shirt, and you can see what looks like small waves of colour and blurriness over the garment.

Some editing programs have a feature that can reduce or remove moiré from photographs.
