Dodge: A photo editing technique that originated from processing in photography darkrooms.

When a negative is projected on to light sensitive paper, the more light the paper is exposed to, the darker the image will become. The dodging process is when parts of the image are exposed for a shorter length of time, resulting in lighter tones.
This tool has been digitally replicated on editing software and can be used to lighten selected parts of a photo.
