We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations across the region.
New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month.
And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next one is!

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Canberra Photography Facebook Group here to share your photos after the session.

We ask that everyone attending a meetup follows social distancing guidelines:

Stay home if you're sick.
Keep 1.5 metres away from others.
Don't make unnecessary physical contact with others. Avoid physical greetings, such as handshakes, hugs and kisses.
Wash your hands regularly with alcohol-based sanitiser.
Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Use a flexed elbow or a tissue; if you use a tissue, dispose of it immediately and appropriately.

City Nightscape Meetup - Mount Ainslie Lookout - 7pm - 2 hours
Nightscape is hard to guarantee a satisfying exposure for every part of your frame. Sometimes the dynamic range of our camera is not enough to help us get all the details when doing post-processing. So zone system is an essential skill if we want to get a neat image at night. This meetup will be a prerequisite class of zone system for you to know how to apply the zone system when you shoot nightscape, what should we be aware of when we decide to use this concept.

Wildlife Bird Photography - Jerrabromberra Wetlands - 9am - 2 hours
This Meetup is perfect if you want a 'hands on' approach to wildlife bird photography.
Capturing birds (in photography, no nets!) is a game of patience, perseverance and technical know-how. It requires you to be able to think on your feet and make changes to your focus, settings and exposure without taking the camera down from your eye.

As it was a small group, I was able to learn alot about using my camera which is what I was after. Enjoyed the combo of bike riding to various spots to then take photos.

Both hubby and I really enjoyed the experience. Despite being a windy day it didn't take away from several pleasant hours of learning new tips, techniques and ideas, thanks to Ijumma. Being a small, supportive group really helped too. We completed this session feeling inspired and ready to test out our new found skills.

Really enjoyed it - although I got very cold by the end! Tutor was very helpful, personable and knowledgeable. My aim was to use 'manual' and I did, with his guidance, and came home with some very encouraging images.
