Bendigo Joss House Temple Photography Meetup - North Bendigo - 1:00pm - 3:00pm - 2 hours
At the heritage-listed Bendigo Joss House Temple you will discover more about Chinese beliefs and the story of the Chinese who came to Bendigo in search of gold.

Opened in 1871, this Chinese place of worship is one of the few remaining buildings of its type in Australia.

The main temple is dedicated to Guan-Di (Kwan Gong), the god of war and prosperity. The Chinese saw him as a wise judge, guide, protector and provider of wealth and prosperity; attributes sought by the Chinese inhabitants of this strange land.

Constructed using locally handmade bricks and painted red – symbolising happiness, strength and vitality – the Bendigo Joss House Temple is a significant and unique part of Bendigo’s cultural history.

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations across the region.
New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month.
And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next one is!

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Bendigo Photography Facebook Group here to share your photos after the session.

Steel Wool Spinning Photography Meetup - Lake Eppalock - 6:00pm -8:00pm - 2 hours
Steel wool photography is a light painting technique that calls for lighting a piece of steel wool on fire and capturing the glow of the steel wool. Light painting is long exposure photography where the light is 'painted' into the scene by the photographer.

Finding a spot that has a foreground and background interest. Think carefully about where you place your camera and tripod.

Take your time. There’s no need to take hundreds of shots at this session, it’s all about taking the time to see and record the landscape around you.

What is the sky doing? If it’s bland and no contrast, then don’t let it dominate your frame. It is always good to have a slice of sky so that it can help ‘break up’ the composition in a good way - think the rule of thirds.

Keep an eye on the horizon! Keep them level and watch where you are placing them in the frame - on one of the thirds is best.

What a gorgeous day and setting to learn more about using our camera. Getting out and taking photos using the settings and seeing the difference they make was interesting and helps explain previous failures.
